Parish Life Ministries

Foyer Groups

"Let us break bread together" is the rallying cry of our Foyer Dinner Group Ministry! We are parishioners who commit to three months of once-a-month casual dining in one another's homes. Delightful and interesting people are divided into groups of 8 for a shared meal and warm fellowship in order to better know one another within a comfortable and strictly social setting. No best bib and tucker needed here - just good food and stimulating conversation!

Groups are comprised of all ages, genders, singles and married, 8:00 and 10:30 services. We all know how difficult it is to get acquainted when we don't even see or meet some of our parish family beyond a combined service. With this in mind, the ministry was conceived out of the Coventry, England model of gathering diverse parishioners to share a meal within the more intimate setting of homes for a relatively short time. After 3 months, we rearrange everyone into a new group for a another period of 3 months.

We begin our Foyer suppers in October, take a break January and February and then begin all over again March through May. Each group is autonomous in deciding who will host, when, and what time. If you are interested in participating in this ministry, contact Bev Newton Moore at 484-1195 or by email.

Breakfasts

Breakfasts are served each morning between the Rite I and Rite II services and prior to Sunday school. If you wish to assist with the preparation of breakfasts, please contact Chris Adams at 217-5258 or by email.

Welcome Committee

The Welcoming Committee serves to welcome all to Saint Luke's. We are charged with five responsibilities: greeting those entering the church for worship, telephoning guests who have visited and filled out the guest card, organizing the Newcomer Coffees, organizing the Service of Incorporation and changing the culture of Saint Luke's to be more welcoming. If you would like information about this committee and how to serve on it, please contact Suzy Wells. If you know of any new people or if you are new or a visitor to St. Lukes please contact Nancy Davis at 484-5428.

Friends and Spirit

The purpose of this ministry is to grow relationships within the congregation and gain a better sense of community. Fellowship is an important component to any congregation. With this in mind, Friends and Spirit was started several years ago to provide an opportunity for adults of all ages, newcomers and long-time parishioners alike, to come together in a social setting. The group is hosted by different folks in the congregation each month. The host opens their home at 6:30 pm and it is potluck. Please RSVP to the host. Childcare is provided by St. Luke’s. Call the nursery to confirm your child(ren)’s attendance. The coordinator is Anna Dickerson. Please contact her with any questions or to volunteer to host at 207-1254 or by email.

St. Luke's Central

At St. Luke’s Central we provide information for visitors as well as being a welcoming ministry. The information includes brochures about St. Luke’s as well as the ministries and their activities. In addition, we provide information regarding the Episcopal Church in general. We also provide information concerning membership forms, stewardship, current music special events, and Daughters of the Kings as well as copies of the most current Messenger. Those who are interested in having name tags can complete the forms. In addition we attempt to speak with all by name and encourage participation in any upcoming events. Anyone may help with this rewarding Ministry. If you are interested just contact Jacque or Lee Hurd at 377-1882 or drop a note in their St. Luke’s box 121.

Pastoral Care Team

The intent of St. Luke’s Pastoral Care Ministry is to provide Christian friendship by being present to listen and to pray as God’s love is expressed with caring commitment. Pastoral Care is a lay "visiting" ministry and is not involved in individual counseling or therapy.

We are on call to make hospital visits in addition to the clergy visits. We are there to listen and comfort through prayerful presence. These visits should last no longer than approximately fifteen to twenty minutes.

Visits to those in nursing homes, assisted living and retirement facilities or to those that are homebound are made to help break the long days of perhaps anxiety and loneliness. We are there as a Christian friend to listen, pray, and comfort in the name of Jesus Christ. These visits should last no longer than approximately half an hour to forty-five minutes.

Please let us know if you, a loved one or someone you know would want us to visit. If you would like further information about Pastoral Care, call St. Luke's at 970 493-7512.

Eucharistic Visitors

Eucharistic visitors are trained lay people who go out from our Eucharistic services to take communion to members who are homebound, either temporarily or permanently. If you would like a visit from our Eucharistic ministers, or if you would like more information concerning this ministry, please contact Pat Carter at (970)484-2344.
